The Professional Educator’s Labor

A teacher’s labor is the ability to create engaging and relevant curriculum that helps students develop a deep understanding and knowledge about the content.

A teacher’s labor is the ability to develop strong relationships with our students; Relationships that foster growth in social skills as well as academics.

A teacher’s labor is the ability to collaborate with other professional educators to further our understanding of our craft and vocation.

From the Bargaining Room, Hard to Know Hanson is Gone

We still have no response on many of our important proposals aimed at creating positive systemic change for our students.
Mr. Nelson needs to understand that our hope in his ability to make the needed systemic changes in FUSD is fading. He needs to take action now because tomorrow, day 216, marks an even bigger milestone…the day this contract negotiation becomes more a reflection on his leadership than his predecessor’s.

The Fresno Teachers Association is about advocating for our students, advocating for best educational practices, and advocating for the best working conditions for all. We will not be idle while the district claims that ALL we care about is our salaries and benefits.

Three Years of Incorrect Salary Info. Given to CA Dept. of Ed.

Fresno Unified’s administration has provided the California Department of Education with erroneous maximum teacher salary information since the 2013-14 school year.

Honest Mistake? Or Misleading Trustees?

Honest Mistake? Or Attempt to Mislead Board Trustees?

Fresno Unified’s administration gave board trustees false information regarding teacher salaries, in a recent board communication. The board communication was in response to a trustee’s request for salary comparisons with local and regional school districts. This data is often used by board trustees in bargaining cycles to determine the district’s competitiveness with other school districts in recruiting and retaining quality educators.

BEE: Assessment: Only 2% of Fresno Unified College Ready

Only 2 percent of Fresno Unified students are considered college ready, according to the latest results from the Early Assessment Program.  The program, overseen by the state Department of Education and California State University, tests 11th-graders in English and math to determine if they are ready for college-level courses.

BEE: How Fresno Unified caught the eye of investigators

A leaseback contract was used to renovate Bullard High School in northwest Fresno.

Since Fresno Unified School District found itself under fire for a “lease-leaseback” contract, superintendents and developers across the state have been quick to point out that the no-bid alternative is a legal way to build and renovate schools.

And they’re right. Leaseback deals are legal.
