Rep Council 3-9-15
Do teachers working at the Designated Schools receive any additional days of sick leave for working the extra time?
NO. THE 10 DAYS OF SICK LEAVE ARE AN ED CODE EXPECTATION, BUT ADDITIONAL DAYS MAY BE ABLE TO BE NEGOTIATED.
If a teacher receives a Does Not Meet Standards on an evaluation, does this affect their ability to transfer to another site?
IF WE ARE TALK ABOUT A DNMS ON ONE OF THE STANDARDS IN THE CSTP, NOT THE SUB SECTIONS UNDER ONE OF THE STANDARDS IT SELF, HUMAN RESOURCES MAY BLOCK THEIR BEING SELECTED FOR A LATER TRANSFER. THIS IS NOT COVERED IN THE CBA.
THE ONLY ACTION THAN CAN BE TAKEN WOULD BE TO FILE A GRIEVANCE AGAINST SITE ADMINISTRATION FOR NOT DEALING WITH THE ISSUE WHEN/IF IT’S REPORTED TO THE ADMINISTRATION.
ON THE 5TH CONSECUTIVE DAY, THE MEMBER WOULD NEED TO HAVE A NOTE COVERING ALL 5 DAYS. THIS IS NOT WRITTEN IN THE CBA, BUT IS A LONG STANDING PRACTICE IN THE DISTRICT.
YES. THE SECTION OF LANGUAGE IN THE CBA AND IN ED CODE DOES NOT DIFFERENTIATE IN ASSIGNMENT, GRADE LEVEL, OR SUBJECT.
Since TK/K teachers finish teaching at 1:00pm, can the principal require them to work with other students from 1:00 until 2:05pm?
NO, ASSUMING THAT THEY ARE DOING THE MAXIMUM NUMBER OF INSTRUCTIONAL MINUTES WRITTEN IN THE CBA. THE DISTRICT WENT TO ‘EXTENDED DAY’ FOR KINDER, AND THOSE TEACHERS ARE NO LONGER TEAM TEACHING AS AN AM/PM TEAM. THEREFORE THEY ARE WORKING WITH THEIR STUDENTS THE EXTRA TIME AND SHOULD NOT BE ASSIGNED TO WORK WITH OTHER GROUPS OF STUDENTS IN THE PM.
What does Ed Code say about TK classrooms; are they required to have a bathroom in their classrooms?
I HAVE NO IDEA. WE’LL HAVE TO RESEARCH AND POST THIS ON OUR WEBSITE.
Are teachers required to allow literacy coaches or TSA’s of any description, to come into the classroom and observe the teacher?
NO. A TSA IS A COLLEAGUE WHO HAS MOVED INTO A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT POSITION, BUT IS NOT AN ADMINISTRATOR AND IS NOT ENTITLED TO OBSERVE ANOTHER TEACHER UNLESS THE TEACHER AGREES.
